Emergency Treatment Service
Please phone the practice for urgent treatment for urgent treatment. Each dentist reserves from 12 to 1 pm for urgent needs, ensuring availability.
Out of Hours Service
The answer machine provides contact details for out-of-hours arrangements.
You will usually be able to speak to one of our dentists. (Occasionally we switch to our local on-call rota of dentists in the Ormskirk area, if our own dentists happen to be away at the same time.) The surgery will be re-opened if needed.
In the mean time the following tips may be useful;
Pain
Unless your doctor advises otherwise, you are best taking ibuprofen as directed regularly. Paracetamol with codeine may be taken as directed in between doses of ibuprofen. Pain during the night can be eased by raising your head with extra pillows.
Trauma
Control bleeding by pressing with a clean fabric. If at all possible, find any pieces of tooth, store them in fresh cold water or milk, and attend the practice as soon as possible. A knocked-out tooth can be re-inserted (preferably by a dentist!) if done within a few hours.
Swelling
Rinsing with hot salt water for a few minutes several times per day helps to relieve pressure and pain.
Bleeding after extraction
A small amount of blood in the saliva is normal immediately after an extraction. If you are suffering prolonged, copious bleeding despite using the pressure packs provided, continue to use pressure with clean fabric and attend our out-of-hours service or your local Accident and Emergency department. Avoid swallowing blood as it often makes you feel sick.
